Shemu'el Bet7

2 Samuel · Chapter 7

And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
That the king said unto Nathan the navi, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of Elohim dwelleth within curtains.
And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) is with thee.
And it came to pass that night, that the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) came unto Nathan, saying,
Go and tell my servant Dawid, Thus saith 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH), Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?
Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Yisra'el out of Mitsrayim, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a mishkan.
In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Yisra'el spake I a word with any of the tribes of Yisra'el, whom I commanded to feed my people Yisra'el, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?
Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant Dawid, Thus saith 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Yisra'el:
And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Yisra'el, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,
And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Yisra'el, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Sha'ul, whom I put away before thee.
And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto Dawid.
Then went king Dawid in, and sat before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH), and he said, Who am I, O master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH)? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH); but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH)?
And what can Dawid say more unto thee? for thou, master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH), knowest thy servant.
For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.
Wherefore thou art great, O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) Elohim: for there is none like thee, neither is there any Elohim beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Yisra'el, whom Elohim went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Mitsrayim, from the nations and their gods?
For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Yisra'el to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH), art become their Elohim.
And now, O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) Elohim, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said.
And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) of hosts is the Elohim over Yisra'el: and let the house of thy servant Dawid be established before thee.
For thou, O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) of hosts, Elohim of Yisra'el, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.
And now, O master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH), thou art that Elohim, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH), hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

Shemu'el Bet8

2 Samuel · Chapter 8

And after this it came to pass, that Dawid smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and Dawid took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became Dawid’s servants, and brought gifts.
Dawid smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.
And Dawid took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and Dawid houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for an hundred chariots.
And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, Dawid slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
Then Dawid put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to Dawid, and brought gifts. And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) preserved Dawid whithersoever he went.
And Dawid took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Yerushalayim.
And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king Dawid took exceeding much brass.
When Toi king of Hamath heard that Dawid had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,
Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king Dawid, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:
Which also king Dawid did dedicate unto 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH), with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;
Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
And Dawid gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men.
And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became Dawid’s servants. And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) preserved Dawid whithersoever he went.
And Dawid reigned over all Yisra'el; and Dawid executed judgment and justice unto all his people.
And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;
And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the kohanim; and Seraiah was the scribe;
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and Dawid’s sons were chief rulers.

2 Samuel · Chapter 9

And Dawid said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Sha'ul, that I may shew him kindness for Yonatan’s sake?
And there was of the house of Sha'ul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto Dawid, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.
And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Sha'ul, that I may shew the kindness of Elohim unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Yonatan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.
Then king Dawid sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.
Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Yonatan, the son of Sha'ul, was come unto Dawid, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And Dawid said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
And Dawid said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Yonatan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Sha'ul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
Then the king called to Ziba, Sha'ul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Sha'ul and to all his house.
Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.
And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
So Mephibosheth dwelt in Yerushalayim: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.
